Sewer Service Info

Depending if you also receive Painesville Electric or Water, there may or may not be a deposit for sewer. The Utilities office will be able to confirm this information for your individual property.

For any sewer issues or concerns, please reach out to the Public Works office at 440-392-9676 during working hours or the Waste Water Plant at 440-392-6316 after hours. All billing questions can be directed to the Utilities office at 440-392-5797.

In the event that your sink, shower, bathtub or toilet is not draining properly or water from these facilities is backing up into your home, reach out to the Public Works office to have the street sewer line checked. A Public Service crew will open the manhole and jet pressurized water through the sewer main. In the event that it is not the main sewer line:

  • Request that plumber come to your home and snake the drain line the entire length from the house to the city sewer main. Chances are that this will clear your line allowing your drains to empty properly into the sewer main.
  • If it cannot be fixed by snaking, your property's residential sewer 'lateral' line, that runs from the home to the main, may need repaired. This is the owner's responsibility. You can, however, call the City's Engineering Department for an assessment on how to repair or clear the issue.
