Disconnection for Nonpayment

The Utilities Billing Office may refuse or discontinue service for customers with unpaid balances owed to the City. Customers with an outstanding balance from a previous address must pay that balance before service can be established at a new address.

Electric and water services may be disconnected 30 days after a bill is due.

If you expect difficulty paying your bill by the due date, contact the Utilities Billing Office as soon as possible:

A 5% late charge is applied to overdue accounts. Returned checks are subject to late charges and an additional $11 fee.

Restoring service may also require payment of all past-due charges and any unpaid deposits.

Request a Shutoff When Moving

Customers who are moving and need electric or water service discontinued must request a final meter reading and shutoff at least one business day in advance.

Requests must be submitted by 3:30 p.m. on the business day before the requested shutoff date.

  • For service to end on Wednesday, submit your request by 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
  • For service to end on Monday, submit your request by 3:30 p.m. Friday.
  • Requests received after 3:30 p.m. require an additional business day for processing.

Customers remain responsible for utility charges until the Utilities Billing Office receives the request and has an opportunity to read the meter.

Shutoff requests may be scheduled up to one week in advance.

At the end of service, the original deposit will be refunded to the account holder unless a balance is due. Deposits may also be transferred to another service location for the same customer.
