The best way to fight a fire is to prevent it from happening in the first place.

That’s the mission of the Painesville Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Bureau—reducing the risk of fire through proactive inspections and code enforcement across the community.

The Bureau works to inspect all schools, institutions, and places of assembly every year, and all other businesses every three years. These regular inspections help ensure buildings remain safe for employees, residents, and visitors alike.

During an inspection, we look for anything that could create a fire or safety hazard—from how materials are stored, to the condition of exits, to access for emergency personnel. We also review fire protection systems, including sprinklers and alarms, along with overall building maintenance and housekeeping.

The Fire Prevention Bureau is staffed by a part-time inspector who works with property owners and businesses to identify issues early and keep Painesville safe.

The Fire Prevention Bureau is staffed by one part-time inspector who is available at (440) 392-5850 or [email protected].
