The City of Painesville owns and operates its own Electric, Water and Waste Water facilities providing low-cost reliable utility services to both residents and businesses alike. What makes public power so different than private utilities?

Sustainability Matters - Painesville Electric buys bulk power through our AMP Ohio partnership. Our portfolio includes clean coal technology, hydro power, natural gas and more. We offer green options to businesses looking to reduce their carbon footprint.
Competitive Rates - We are a not-for-profit electric system who establishes electric rates based on the cost to service. The benefit to business is competitive electric rates without the burden of shareholder profits. While private utilities rates fluctuate for profit and to create monopolies, public utilities rates are more stable over time.
Reliable Service - Public power systems are known for their reliable service because their employees live in the area they serve. Painesville Electric has earned the RP3 designation by the American Public Power Association for reliability. On average, public power customers loose power for just 74 minutes a year compared to 136 minutes average in private utilities.
