Info About the New Lake County Public Safety Center

City offices have received many inquires lately about the new jail/safety center project. Here are some facts for community members to help stop the spread of misinformation:
  • The new Public Safety Center is a Lake County and Lake County Sheriff's Office project for replacing the current jail on E Erie Street. This is not a Painesville City project. The county has and will continue to work with the City to meet all zoning and compliance since the complex is within city limits.
  • The jail will be located across the street from the current jail on E Erie Street. The new jail will feature 504 beds (current jail 353 beds) over 3.5 floors, in a 210,000 square ft. main building. Plans include 446 parking spaces and detached sheriff's garage. To keep with the historic look of the downtown, the architecture will feature red brick, limestone and gabled roofs.
  • As the project moves forward, more information will be released by the County. The Lake County Commissioners' Office has a dedicated resource page on their website: https://www.lakecountyohio.gov/commissioners-office/public-safety-center-updates/
