2018 Painesville Fire Entrance Exam

The Painesville Fire Department is currently accepting applications for the position of firefighter. Applications are available at iosolutions.com until May 23, 208 at 4:00 p.m. (CST). You must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • $40 non-refundable application processing fee (paid online before accessing the online application);
  • U.S. Citizenship;
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED);
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License;
  • 18 to 31 years of age as of the date of appointment OR 31-35 years of age ONLY with prior firefighter service in the state of Ohio;
  • Applicants MUST have a valid Physical Agility Test Certificate from Cuyahoga Community College (TriC) at time of application deadline or no later than the date of the written examination (June 16) for admission to the examination. Certificates considered valid only if issued no more than one year prior to the written test (June 16, 2017- June 16, 2018). All tasks in the physical agility test must be completed in 4.5 minutes or less;

 

  • Ohio Firefighter II Certificate and Ohio Paramedic License at time of appointment.
  • There will be a non-refundable $18 testing fee payable to the City of Painesville, 7 Richmond Street, P.O. Box 601, Painesville, OH 44077. Please mail or drop off payment at the Human Resources Department by June 15.

 

ADDITIONAL CREDIT (20% credit limit)


Applicants must achieve a 70% or higher on the written exam and successfully complete the Tri-C Firefighters Physical Agility Test with a time of 4.5 minutes or less to receive Additional Credit. Additional Credit will be granted after showing proof of the following:

  • Prior service in this country’s armed forces (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Army National Guard or the reserve units of such) who has been honorably discharged or transferred to the reserve and has completed more than 180 days of active duty service shall receive an additional credit of 20% of the person’s total grade given in the examination in which the person receives a passing grade.
  • College degree in Emergency Medicine, Fire Science, Emergency Management, shall receive an additional credit of 10% of applicant’s written score
  • Six months or more of part-time fire service with the City of Painesville and presently on the active roster, shall receive 10% for 6 months to 1 year and 1% additional for each full year of service there after
  • Prior full-time career firefighter service in the State of Ohio, shall receive 10% for 5 years or more years of service

 

All portions of the testing process are mandatory. Failure to attend and complete any portion of the process will result in elimination from employment consideration.

 

WRITTEN EXAM


Candidates must attend the mandatory orientation and written examination on Saturday, June 16. Sign in begins at 8:15 a.m. Please arrive no later than 8:30 a.m. with a photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, military ID) to sign in. Late arrivals will not be permitted. Testing will be held at Harvey High School, 200 W. Walnut Avenue, Painesville, Ohio 44077.
