2024 Road Projects Announced

Throughout the months of December and January, Painesville City Council approved moving forward with various road projects for the 2024 construction season. The Painesville Engineering Department’s 2024 road plan encompasses the following:

  • Liberty Street Sewer Lining and Resurfacing – This project includes lining 2,511 feet of sanitary sewer and 544 feet of storm sewer on Liberty Street. Once complete, resurfacing will occur from State Route 84 to the Washington Street intersection. The project will be administered by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). The City’s portion of costs are estimated at $406,000 and Lake County’s portion at $118,000. The City received a grant from the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) for $813,830 for the project, putting the total resurfacing costs at $1,338,000. The estimated sanitary and stormwater cost of the project is $550,000 which will come from the City’s Capital Budget. During construction, Liberty Street will be one-way heading south for a majority of the project, and the intersection of Walnut Avenue and Liberty Street will be closed for a small amount of time to re-profile the intersection.

  • Reed Avenue Reconstruction – The Reed Avenue project was put on hold in 2023 due to various delays and rising costs. The resurfacing of Reed Avenue, from Lexington Avenue to Newell Street, is now scheduled for 2024. Work will include new storm sewers, curbs, cement stabilization and asphalt pavement. This project has an estimated cost of $743,000, with $321,560 coming from the City’s Road Levy, $321,560 from the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) and $100,000 from Lake County’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).

  • E Washington Street and Roosevelt Drive – The resurfacing of E Washington Street from Liberty Street to S State Street, and Roosevelt Drive from Forest Drive to Mentor Avenue, is scheduled for the summer of 2024. Combined, the two roads are estimated at $466,000 and will be funded by the Road Levy and City’s General Fund.

  • S Park Place Streetscape Project – Construction on the streetscape in front of the newly renovated Lake Erie College student housing on Painesville Square will begin this year. This includes new leveled sidewalks and landscaping starting at the intersection of Liberty Street and continuing along S Park Place, ending at Main Street. The total project is estimated at $2.5 million with funding coming from a variety of sources including NOACA’s Transportation for Livable Communities Initiative (TLCI) grant at $375,000. No Road Levy funds will be used to pay for the S Park Place Streetscape Project.
