Construction Begins on New Painesville Medical Center

The City of Painesville is excited to announce that construction has begun on Signature Health’s new Painesville Medical Center at 54 S State Street in downtown Painesville. The planned outpatient medical facility will be operated by Signature Health, a trusted Northeast Ohio healthcare provider since 1993 and plans to add up to 50 new jobs to the downtown area. The new medical center plans to open the second half of 2021.

The $6 million project will be a combined 32,000 square feet of renovated space and house primary care services, women’s/reproductive health, infectious disease specialists, psychiatry/mental health services, lab services, pharmacy and dental services. The new facility will move the existing Signature Health Painesville office from a smaller, less accessible location off Chester Street, to the downtown area with plenty of parking. The medical facility will be a welcomed and much needed resource for city residents who have been medically underserved since the loss of Lake East Hospital in 2009.

Signature Health and City officials worked together throughout the planning process over the past several years to assess the healthcare needs in the community, utilizing the data collected in the Lake County General Health District’s community assessment.

“This medical center will be providing outstanding quality of care and health services to all people, regardless of their ability to pay,” said Jonathan Lee, CEO of Signature Health. “Our investment in Painesville comes after closely evaluating the community’s needs and identifying the gaps in service that we can fill.”

Signature Health is a community-based health clinic campus dedicated to providing primary medical care and mental health services to families and individuals alike. Promising immediate access to clients and referral sources, the staff at Signature Health is personally committed to delivering accessible, comprehensive and outstanding quality of care to all community members, regardless of their socio-economic status. Because of Signature Health’s federally qualified designation, persons at or below 100% of poverty can receive services at no charge and maintains a sliding fee scale for those between 100% and 200% of poverty, charging no more than a $20 co-pay per visit.

“We have such a diversity in both culture and socio-economic status in the city that we really were looking for a healthcare solution that would serve everyone in our community,” said Cathy Bieterman, Economic Development Director. “We are excited about this state of the art healthcare center being available to all our community members. Our eventual goal is to have a walkable urgent care in our downtown area.”

Significant renovations are underway to the inside of the existing three-story building on S State Street in order to house the new medical equipment, machinery and patient-friendly floor plan. The outside of the building will receive a face-lift with new windows, fresh paint and brick detailing.
