City Council Votes to Maintain Fireworks Ban
At Monday, June 27's City Council meeting, Council voted to maintain the existing ban on fireworks in city limits, opting out of Ohio House Bill 172.
In 2021, the State of Ohio passed House Bill 172, which allowed any persons authorized to possess consumer grade fireworks to discharge them. The law also allowed local governments to restrict the dates and times individuals can discharge fireworks or ban them completely. After three public readings of proposed changes to the city's fireworks ordinance, and over 40 letters of concern from residents, City Council reaffirmed the ban on discharging, igniting or exploding fireworks as set forth in Section 1519.04 of the Code Ordinances of the City of Painesville.
