Painesville City Council Appoints Two New Committee Members

At the Monday, June 15 Painesville council meeting, City Council voted on appointments to fill the empty seats on Planning Commission and the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA). Jim Fialko of Sanford Street will start his term on Planning Commission through December 2023 and Brian Dunay of Bank Street will start his term on the BZA through December 2024.

Fialko is a four year resident of Painesville City and has worked for the Planning and Development Department for the City of Euclid over the past 24 years. He has overseen numerous community improvement projects in Euclid and is involved with various grant applications for the city. Jim and his wife, Marcia, have been married for 33 years and have two adult children. “I applied because I wanted to give something back to the community,” said Fialko. “I like the blend of small town atmosphere combined with city and college atmospheres.”

Dunay is a five year resident of Painesville City and has a background in business-to-business media for more than 20 years. He has held positions in business development, marketing and project management. Brian and his wife, Erica, have three children: Joe, Jacob and Jayden. “One of the most important things we love about Painesville is its diversity. I’m not sure you are able to find that anywhere else in Lake County,” said Dunay. “I joined the BZA because I thought it would be a good way to get more involved and active with our community.”

Fialko’s first Planning Commission meeting will be on Thursday, July 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Courtroom #1, 7 Richmond Street. Dunay attended his first BZA meeting on Thursday, June 18 at the same location.
