Painesville Announces New Assistant City Manager

At Monday, April 5 Painesville City Council meeting, City Manager Doug Lewis announced his appointment of Derek Feuerstein to the position of Assistant City Manager of Painesville. The role of Assistant City Manager opened after Lewis was appointed to his current role as City Manager in December 2020. He served as Painesville’s Assistant City Manager for 12 years.

“We had a very talented pool of candidates for the Assistant City Manager position, but Derek’s prior experience, skills and team-oriented approach made him the ideal candidate to fill the position,” said Lewis. “I know he will be an asset to the City of Painesville and I look forward to working with him to continue to improve the community.”

Feuerstein comes from the City of Elyria, where he served as Safety/Service Director over the past year. Previous to Elyria, Feuerstein served as the City Manager of Rittman, Ohio and the Deputy Safety/Service Director in Lorain, Ohio. He is a graduate of the University of Akron with a Master’s Degree in political science.

“I am excited for the opportunity to join the staff at the City of Painesville. I know many individuals who have worked closely with the City and have spoken very highly of their experience. When I saw the opportunity to join the team, I knew I had to apply. I am appreciative of the opportunity and look forward to serving the citizens of Painesville,” said Feuerstein.
