Annual Testing of Backflow Prevention Devices

The Painesville Water Department is performing their annual backflow prevention device testing. If you receive a letter (or multiple letters), our records indicate that testing is now more than 30 days past due for the backflow prevention device(s) located on the water service(s), irrigation system, or fire protection system that supplies your property.

Please do not ignore this testing notice. If the inspection(s) is not completed within 60 days of the date of the letter, water service to your property will be shut off until the inspection is complete and results reported to the City of Painesville Water Department.

Letters include a backflow test sheet. We also provide you with a list of local certified testers for your convenience. You may use one of them or any Ohio certified tester on staff at your preferred plumbing company.

In accordance with Ohio EPA regulations, the Ohio Administrative Code Section 3745-95, and the City of Painesville Water ordinance 933.22 cross-connection control, the property owner/tenant is responsible for this device(s), its annual certification testing and any charges resulting from the certification. The testing is required to ensure public safety by confirming that the device(s) is operating properly.

If the test shows that the backflow prevention device is not operating properly, you must have the necessary repairs made and have the device retested.

Questions may be directed to the City of Painesville Water Distribution Office at (440)392-2975 between 7:30am – 3:00pm Monday-Friday.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe water system for all our residents!
