All full-time firefighter positions with the City of Painesville are part of the Civil Service system (with the exception of the Fire Chief).
Hiring is conducted through a competitive testing process administered by the Civil Service Commission. Eligibility lists are established through this process and remain valid for two years.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for a full-time firefighter position, applicants must:
- Be certified as a State of Ohio Firefighter Level II
- Be certified as a State of Ohio EMT-Paramedic
- Maintain a tobacco-free lifestyle throughout employment
- Successfully complete an annual physical agility test
Lateral Entry
Qualified firefighters from other departments may apply through the lateral entry process when available. Additional details are provided during active recruitment periods.
