The City of Painesville requires property owners to register their vacant residential and commercial building to protect the livability, appearance and social fabric of our neighborhoods. Codified Ordinance 1375 was created to shift the burden of vacant houses and buildings from the general public to the owners of these properties and to encourage them to actively seek vacancy.
Requirements
Owners must register with the Community Development Office within 90 days after any residential or commercial building becoming vacant or no later than 30 days of being notified by the Community Development Office of the requirement to register based on evidence of vacancy, whichever event first occurs.
Fees
The fee to register is $200 in the first year for residential and $400 the first year for commercial. The fee doubles each year the property remains vacant. Please make checks payable to the City of Painesville.
