Position Objectives:
This is technical and supervisory work in directing the operation, maintenance, and construction activities of the municipal electrical distribution system.
Work involves planning, directing, and supervising electrical distribution operations and establishing appropriate procedures and methods conducive to efficient and effective administration. Duties include inspecting completed contractual work prior to recommending final acceptance. Work requires the exercise of considerable independence of judgment and initiative within established policies subject to review by the electric superintendent.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Organizes, schedules, assigns, and reviews maintenance and construction activities and establishes and implements work methods and practices; confers with other municipal utility personnel concerning mutual problems and technical changes.
- Recommends alterations and modifications to the system; prepares drawings, plans, and specifications related to additions or system expansion.
- Prepares technical reports and specifications; prepares purchase order requests; recommends both an operating and capital improvement budget; evaluates employee performance.
- Answers customer complaint calls and directs the implementation of appropriate corrective measures.
- Collaborate to develop and edit Standard Operating Procedures and Policies.
- Performs related work as required.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Graduation from high school.
Experience: Thorough experience in all phases of electric distribution construction and maintenance work, including supervisory experience.
A different combination of education and experience may be acceptable if deemed equivalent.
Scheduling Demands and Constraints: Must be available for outages and emergency situations.
Desirable Training and Experience:
Knowledge of:
- The standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of an overhead and underground electrical power distribution system.
- Municipal Electric Distribution Systems
- The occupational hazards connected with overhead and underground line construction and maintenance and of necessary safety precautions.
- Electrical engineering as applied to electric distribution systems.
- Modern office procedures and processes
- Strong computer skills (including but not limited to Microsoft Office & Web based apps)
Skill and Ability to:
- Plan, organize, and schedule administrative and technical work.
- Supervise subordinate personnel.
- Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction plans.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, city officials, and the general public.
