Position Objectives:

Reports to the Recreation Supervisor and is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of camp programming and supervising campers through planning and implementing camp activities, engaging with participants and parents/guardians, and providing leadership in a fun, safe, and enjoyable environment.  Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions with exposure to environmental conditions associated with recreational programming.

Duties and Responsibilities:

WORK RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure the safety, enjoyment, and care of registered participants in Painesville Recreation Summer Camp.

• Enforce camp rules, safety procedures, and behavioral expectations for participants.

• Provide feedback regarding Camp Counselor performance to the Recreation Supervisor.

• Oversee the daily operation of camp programming.

• Maintain appropriate participant supervision and staff-to-camper ratios at all times.

• Maintain ongoing communication with camper parents/guardians.

• Respond to first aid situations.

• Report all incidents, accidents, issues and concerns to Recreation Supervisor.

• Complete all formal paperwork (accident, incident, complaint forms, weekly attendance).

• Ensure all equipment is prepared/put away daily; and

• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

REQUIREMENTS

• Must obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certification through City-provided training upon hire.

• Must be at least 18 years old.

• Must possess valid Ohio Driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

• Education classes or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field preferred.

• Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities.

• Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.

• Strong organizational and communication skills.

• Demonstrate good customer service and communication skills to deal effectively and courteously with staff and the general public; good interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.

• Experience working with children.

• Successful completion of criminal background check prior to employment.

• Must possess the physical ability to actively participate in and supervise camp activities.  Duties include, but are not limited to, standing, walking, running, hiking, canoeing, swimming, participating in team-building initiatives and recreational activities, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

• Must be able to occasionally lift and carry supplies weighing up to 25 pounds

Benefits:

Compensation:  Hourly rate of up to $25.00/hour (based on experience)
