Full-Time Police Officer
All full-time police officers with the City of Painesville are Civil Service, with the exception of the Police Chief. Hiring for the position of police officer is done through a competitive testing procedure run by the Civil Service Commission. All tests are certified and good for two years from date of certification.
Minimum Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizen
- At least a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Ohio Driver's License
- Must be at least 21-year-old and under 37-year-old at the time of appointment for entry level positions
- Must successfully complete the police physical agility exam and written exam
- Have an Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) Certificate
Additional consideration is given to those who have:
- Prior service with an honorable discharge from the U.S. Armed Forces
- Experience in municipal, state or county law enforcement
- Associate, Bachelor or higher educational degree from an accredited university or college
In addition to completing a physical agility and written exam, as applicants move through the interview process, they will also be subject to:
- Drug Screening
- Background Investigation
- Psychological Evaluation
- Medical Evaluation
