The Planning Commission reviews development proposals and helps guide how the City grows and develops.
The Commission considers:
- Site plans and new construction projects
- Property subdivisions and land use changes
- Conditional use permits
- Updates to the Zoning Code
- Improvements to public land
The Commission serves as the primary decision-making body for many residential and commercial development applications. It also advises City Council on planning and development matters.
Meetings & Decisions
The Planning Commission meets monthly to review submitted applications.
Decisions made by the Commission are final but may be appealed to City Council. Council may uphold, modify, overturn, or return a decision for further review.
Membership
The Commission is made up of five City residents appointed by City Council.
- Members serve six-year terms
- Positions are unpaid
- Members must be qualified electors of the City
- Vacancies are filled for the remainder of the unexpired term
Support & Administration
The Planning Commission may work with architects, engineers, and other professionals as needed, within funding approved by City Council.
The City Manager may also serve as a consultant to the Commission.
Meeting Information
Meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in Courtroom #1, 7 Richmond Street, Painesville. All meetings are open to the public.
