Refuse and recycling service transition
The City of Painesville is transitioning to a new refuse and recycling provider, Major Waste Disposal Services. The new service will begin Monday, June 29, 2026.
Residents can expect expanded recycling options, weekly recycling pickup, weekly seasonal yard waste pickup, and continued curbside refuse collection on their regular collection day.
Important transition dates
Week of June 15
Major Waste Disposal will begin delivering new trash and recycling carts to residents.
During the transition, residents may temporarily have two sets of carts at their homes. The City appreciates your patience during this process.
Week of June 22 through June 26
Republic Services will complete its final week of trash and recycling collection in Painesville.
After your final Republic Services pickup that week, residents are asked to leave all Republic Services carts at the curb for removal.
Cart collection will begin the following day and continue throughout the week. For example, carts used for Monday collections will be removed beginning Tuesday, while carts used for Friday collections will be removed beginning Saturday.
According to Republic Services, only one attempt will be made to collect the carts, so residents are asked to make sure carts remain curbside and accessible on their designated collection day.
Monday, June 29
Major Waste Disposal will officially begin refuse and recycling collection service in Painesville.
Your regular collection day will remain the same.

Expanded recycling program
As part of the transition to Major Waste Disposal, Painesville residents will now have expanded recycling opportunities.
Previously, residents could recycle plastics marked with recycling symbols No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5. Under the new program, residents will now be able to recycle plastics marked No. 1 through No. 7.

Important reminder regarding Republic Services autopay
