Refuse and recycling service transition

The City of Painesville has transitioned to a new refuse and recycling provider, Major Waste Disposal Services. The new service began Monday, June 29, 2026.

Residents can expect expanded recycling options, weekly recycling pickup, weekly seasonal yard waste pickup, and continued curbside refuse collection on their regular collection day.

Expanded recycling program

As part of the transition to Major Waste Disposal, Painesville residents will now have expanded recycling opportunities.

Previously, residents could recycle plastics marked with recycling symbols No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5. Under the new program, residents will now be able to recycle plastics marked No. 1 through No. 7.

Billing information

Major Waste sent billing information to residents in early July  2026.  The mailing included instructions on how to pay online, and details on creating a customer portal.

City ordinance requirement

Painesville City Ordinance Chapter 955 requires all property owners of one-, two- and three-family dwellings to establish and maintain refuse collection service with the City’s selected contractor.
